5. REGULATION
amending Regulation No. 944/2014 on the safety of toys and their marketing in the European Economic Area

6. Swings for children used on playgrounds.

8. This proposal includes a change in rules regarding playground equipment with swings. It changes Regulation on safety of toys and marketing No 944/2014 by adding a requirement. This requirement entails that a plastic cover is put on ropes or chains so they cannot be looped.

9. The change in the Regulation is based on a horrible accident that happened to a small boy. The boy got strangled in the swing he was using. This accident showed the need for some protection against looping of the line on swings.

This Regulation implements Directive 2009/48/EU, Directive 2012/7/EU and Regulation 681/2013/EU
