5. New version of the Technical Requirements for Vehicle Parts during Type Examination under § 22a of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO)

6. Under § 22a of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), certain vehicle parts require type-approval.

8. The purpose of the subsequent amendment to the Technical Requirements is to ensure that, in terms of the requirements to be met, vehicle parts requiring type-approval are in line with the latest technology and that only such parts are used.

At the request of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the Technical Committee on Vehicle Technology (FKT), the Technical Committee on Vehicle Technology – Special Committee on Lighting Equipment (FKT-SdA ‘Licht’) undertook the considerable task of revising the Technical Requirements for Vehicle Parts during Type Examination under § 22a StVZO (with a focus on lighting) and of bringing these in line with the latest technology in the interest of traffic safety. Bicycle and parts manufacturer associations, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) and others participated in the relevant sub-working group led by the BASt (Mr Bierbach).
