8. The Interface Specification (SSB) regulates the basic requirements for radio equipment of the Automatic Ship Identification System (AIS) in accordance with Section 4(2) of the Act on the Provision of Radio Equipment on the Market (Radio Equipment Act - FuAG).

This interface specification replaces SSB SE 014, June 2013 edition, notified under No. 2013/0428/D.

9. The interface specification serves to ensure both that the radio spectrum is used effectively and that there is support for the efficient use of radio frequencies, so that no radio interference occurs. The interface specification is specified pursuant to Directive 2014/53/EU.
