5. Regulation of the National Approval System for Products in Contact with Water intended for Human Consumption

6. “Product in contact with water”: an item which comes into contact with water intended for human consumption, consists of final materials and is intended to be placed on the market with the marking provided for in Chapter IV of this Regulation;

The draft Regulation is based on implementing acts adopted by the European Commission, in particular implementing decisions 2024/365, 2024/367 and 2024/368, supplemented by Delegated Regulations 2024/369, 2024/370 and 2024/371, and implements an accredited certification scheme for construction products in contact with water intended for human consumption.

The draft regulation is intended to comply with the obligation laid down in Article 11 of Directive (EU) 2020/2184 on the quality of water intended for human consumption, as well as with that laid down in Article 33(1) of Decree-Law No 69/2023 of 21 August 2023, ensuring not only better protection of human health, but also the standardisation of existing approval procedures.
