8. The draft model guidelines outline requirements specifically for the storage of used tyres and plastic waste in waste disposal facilities. The draft limits the size of storage areas in order to enable effective fire extinguishing operations by the fire service in the event of fire. A distinction is made between storage in buildings and outdoors. Fire extinguishing and fire alarm systems are required in buildings.
The height of stored goods is limited. In addition, places for the removal and quenching of burning substances must be kept available.

9. These draft guidelines update the guidelines from 1996.
The amendment makes editorial changes, limits the scope to waste disposal facilities and adds used tyres to the scope. Newly introduced terms (used tyres, plastic waste) are defined. Changes are also being made to fire protection distances (fire breaks) between the individual storage areas.

The notification is made on behalf of the 16 federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany.
