8. In the general part:
- From 1 March 2026, it will be possible to use the requirements of Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/368 as an alternative to the requirements of the KTW assessment basis to demonstrate the hygienic suitability elastomers and thermoplastic elastomers for drinking water.
- Editorial changes are made due to the adaptation of the standard references.
- Monomers with a maximum application rate of 0.5 % that are incorporated into the polymer chain do not require separate listing on the positive list.
- The evaluation of test results and determination falling trends in microbiological requirements for Method 2 of DIN EN 16421 are specified.
- The requirements for listed and non-listed polymeric additives are aligned.
The polymer-specific part of the assessment basis is supplemented by newly evaluated starting materials.

9. The assessment basis for plastics and other organic materials in contact with drinking water (KTW-BWGL) was last notified under 2024/0135/D, 4th amendment to the KTW-BWGL. The 5th amendment did not require a notification.
In the meantime, further additions to the KTW-BWGL are necessary and further starting materials have been assessed as suitable for drinking water hygiene, which must now be listed in the positive list (polymer-specific part).
