8. The interface specification regulates the basic requirements for VHF radio equipment in the maritime radio service (excluding AIS) in accordance with Section 4 Paragraph 2 of the Act on the placing of radio equipment on the market (Radio Equipment Act - FuAG).

This interface specification replaces SSB SE 018, of September 2013, notified under No 2013/0623/D.

9. The interface specification serves to ensure both that the radio spectrum is used effectively and that there is support for the efficient use of radio frequencies, so that no radio interference occurs. The interface specification is mandatory pursuant to Directive 2014/53/EU.
