5. 2. Amendment of the assessment basis for enamels and ceramic materials in contact with drinking water (enamel evaluation criteria)

8. The assessment basis for enamels and ceramic materials in contact with drinking water was last notified under 2021/228/D — 1st amendment.
The following lists the most important changes:
• The positive list for enamels is also extended for glasses.
• The positive lists for borosilicate glasses (Table 2) and hard ferrite ceramics (Table 5) have been modified.
• The entry for “mixed metal oxides (MMO)” has been added.
• Annex 3 with an exemplary overview of the different products in the 4 product groups has been inserted.

9. Directive 98/83/EC requires Member States to take all measures necessary to comply with the requirements of Article 10 of said Directive. Article 10 is transposed into German law by § 17 of the Drinking Water Ordinance [TrinkwV]. The submitted draft of the 2nd amendment of the assessment basis specifies these requirements for enamel and ceramic materials and is necessary to maintain the hygienic safety of the drinking water supply in Germany.
