5. Draft Royal Decree approving the Supplementary Technical Instruction AEM 1 “Lifts”, regulating the commissioning, modification, maintenance and inspection of lifts and the increasing of safety of existing lifts.

8. The draft Royal Decree consists of a preamble, a single article, seven additional provisions, four transitional provisions, a single repealing provision and four final provisions.
The single Article approves the Supplementary Technical Instruction AEM 1 “Lifts”, which sets out the specific technical requirements for maintenance, inspection, modification and improvement, in accordance with the current state of the art for the safety of persons in lifts already installed.
9. The main objective of the draft is to adapt the safety regulations for installed lifts by laying down technical requirements for maintenance and periodic inspections, taking into account technical developments and to reconsider the ways to carry out maintenance reviews.
