5. Draft Regulation on Road Signalling with Traffic Signs

6. The draft Regulation on road signalling with traffic signs regulates the type, procedure and rules for the use of the types of road signs, including variable message traffic signs and other signalling equipment on roads for traffic organisation

The draft Regulation on road signalling with traffic signs regulates the type, procedure and rules for the use of the types of road signs, including variable message traffic signs and other signalling equipment on roads for traffic organisation on roads open to public use. Review and analysis of the provisions of the current Regulation No 18 of 2001 on road signalling with traffic signs were carried out, on the basis of which parts of the texts shall be retained and new requirements shall be inserted, as follows:
- minimum sight distance requirements shall be introduced for the visibility of road signs and the way in which it is to be determined;
- requirements shall be laid down for road signs used to signal a road section used by drivers of individual electric vehicles;
- new road signs belonging to D Group shall be introduced: D14b “End of mandatory cyclists-only road”; D15b “End of mandatory pedestrians-only road”; D16b “End of mandatory pedestrians- and cyclists-only road with respective designated places of movement”; D14a “Mandatory cyclists-only road”; D15a “Mandatory pedestrians-only road”; D16a “Mandatory pedestrians- and cyclists-only road with respective designated places of movement”;
- new visualisation shall be determined for road signs to be used to indicate the starting and ending point of the toll zone: E13 “Starting point of the area of operation of the displayed road sign” and D14 “End point of the area of operation of the displayed road sign”;
- new road sign under E Group shall be introduced: E28 “Parking and travel”, which shall be used to signal the places where the vehicle can be parked and the driver can switch to regular public passenger transport lines;
- new road signs under G Group shall be introduced, which will be used to indicate the number of bicycle routes included in tourist and cycling maps, with a view to promote cycling and alternative tourism: G25.1 Cycling Route Number under the International Classification, and G25.2 Cycling Route Number under the National Classification;
- new Chapter Five “Variable Message Traffic Signs” was developed, which links the road signs with changing messages to the requirements of BDS EN 12966 standard “Road vertical signs - Variable message traffic signs.” and introduces the functions and visualisation of the signs.

9. The draft Regulation on Road Signalling with Traffic Signs aims to ensure better awareness of drivers where there are changes in their traffic environment, to clarify the requirements and their consistency with other regulations in order to eliminate discrepancies, and clarify existing requirements which were ambiguously interpreted and applied in the design practice.
