6. The regulation affects construction and, indirectly, construction products.

8. The Danish Government wants to reduce the climate impact of the construction sector. Therefore, in January 2023, the government introduced an obligation to document the climate impact of new constructions. In addition, some major constructions must keep the climate impact below a limit value.

The regulation thus notified supplements the regulations introduced at that time, which did not contain environmental data for recycled construction materials. The supplement consists in the fact that the climate impact of recycled construction materials can be presumed to be 0.

9. The notified regulation, which is an addition to existing rules on construction, aims to promote recycling in construction. In addition to the requirement to calculate the climate impact of buildings, specific calculation rules are introduced for recycled materials. Specifically, when calculating the climate impact of buildings, this means that the use of recycled materials must be included in the calculation of 0 kg CO2 equivalent for all modules that are currently included in the climate impact requirement for buildings.

The regulation does not take into account the country in which the construction product in question was produced or previously used. The regulation does not require a declaration of the climate impact of the construction product. Furthermore, no labelling of products or requirements for labelling of products are introduced.
