5. Draft Royal Decree amending Chapter 7.1 of Book 1 and parts of Books 1, 2 and 3, introduced by the Royal Decree of 8 September 2019 establishing Books 1, 2 and 3 of the General Regulations on Electrical Installations

6. Minimum safety measures for electrical installations in Belgium in accordance with the General Regulations on Electrical Installations (GIE) introduced by the Royal Decree of 8 September 2019 establishing Books 1, 2 and 3

8. The draft provides for the:

1) Revision of Chapter 7.1 of Book 1 based on International Standard IEC 60364: security measures for the electrical installation of places containing a bath and/or shower
2) Revision of subsection 5.3.5.2. of Book 1 with regard to the implementation and use of socket-outlets in domestic and non-domestic installations (choice, degree of protection, etc.)
3) Place accessible to the public (Books 1, 2 and 3): addition of a definition and mention of these places in the document on external influences on non-domestic installations
4) Adaptation of certain terms in relation to the amendments of the draft and correction of certain ambiguities in Books 1, 2 and 3 to make them clearer

9. On 1 June 2020, a new, restructured RGIE entered into force for electrical installations implemented in Belgium, replacing the former RGIE in force in Belgium since 1981. The draft Royal Decree is part of the ongoing restructuring of the RGIE and its contents to maintain a satisfactory level of safety for people and property in the light of the continuing technological development of electrical installations.
