8. The draft sets out derogations from the general provisions on maximum authorised speed laid down in the Road Traffic Ordinance (1998:1276) for a combination comprising a car and two trailers. The draft also contains conditions with regard to brakes, number of articulation points, steering axles and vehicle height, that must be met for the derogation to apply. The regulations replace the Swedish Road Administration’s regulations (VVFS 2005:131) on the maximum speed for cars with two trailers (double combination) that are currently in force.

The aim is to update the regulations that are currently in force (VVFS 2005:131) on derogations from the provisions on maximum authorised speed laid down in Chapter 4, Section 20 of the Road Traffic Ordinance for combinations comprising a car and two trailers, and to bring the regulations in line with amendments to the Road Traffic Ordinance (Chapter 4, Sections 17d and 17f). The regulations contain conditions relating to anti-lock braking systems, axles, articulation points and vehicle height. Replacement of the current regulations and incorporation into the Swedish Transport Agency’s Code of Statutes will also make the rules more accessible to those who shall apply them.

The regulations allow vehicle combinations to be driven at 80 km/h, instead of 40 km/h, on roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h or higher, without having to apply for a derogation from the competent authority in the individual case.
