4. 2025/0228/PT - N30E - Gas
5. Technical Regulation on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of piped gas installations in buildings.
6. Establishment of the technical conditions applicable to the design, assembly and operation of piped gas installations in single or multiple-occupancy buildings, with installed capacity per household or per place of consumption not exceeding 500 kW.
7.
8. The current Regulation approved by Ordinance No 361/98 of 26 June, as amended by Ordinance
No 690/2001 of 10 July, still in force, has shown that it is very important for installers, inspectors, distributors and project designers to have a set of clear and well-defined rules to ensure the quality and safety of installations.
The last few years have seen the emergence of new materials, devices and appliances and the publication of numerous Portuguese and European technical standards covering materials, products, equipment and appliances for burning gaseous fuels and the assembly and testing of installations. The importance of this matter therefore justifies revising the technical rules applicable to gas installations in buildings so that they are as comprehensive and up-to-date as possible, while also encouraging increased productivity and improvements in the quality of performance of the entities involved.
Keywords: gas, gas installation, gas in buildings, gas appliances.
9. This new regulation aims to adapt the current rules to technological developments, and to the general safety requirements that are currently observed, through the:
• Incorporation of new definitions and the elimination of obsolete ones;
• Standardisation of units of pressure and distance;
• Removal of some materials and introduction of others;
• Incorporation of the idea of project design, and its structure;
• Alignment of building typology with other regulations;
• Redefinition of the responsibilities of the entities involved;
• Clarification of the situations requested of the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG).
