5. Draft implementing decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic amending Implementing Decree No 143/2012 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic on the breeding of dangerous animals

6. Owners or keepers of dangerous animals.

8. Based on expert knowledge and practical experience, it is proposed to reclassify the species of dangerous animals in the reptiles and amphibians class by removing certain species. At the same time, it is proposed to classify all species from the Falconiformes order and all species from the Strigiformes order, i.e. birds of prey, as dangerous animal species and include the order Primates in the Mammalia class and, within this class, include the genus Procyonideae in the family Canidae. Further to the changes relating to dangerous animal species, it is proposed that specific requirements for the breeding or keeping of selected species and for the establishments breeding them be laid down in the annex.

9. The draft implementing decree reclassifies species of dangerous animals in the reptile and amphibian class, adds new species of dangerous animals and contains provisions on the requirements for breeding or keeping them so that the animals are provided optimal living conditions (welfare) and threats to human and animal life or health due to the animals’ natural behaviour are prevented.

The provisions on the general requirements for breeding or keeping dangerous animals reflect the changes arising from Act No 184/2018 amending Act No 39/2007 on veterinary care, as amended, and the requirements that have arisen from practical experience, in particular the need to specify the scope and content of record-keeping on dangerous animals to ensure effective performance of veterinary checks and provide an overview of the number and species of the animals kept.
