5. Decree on the period of availability of spare parts for certain equipment mentioned by Article L.111-4 of the Consumer Code

The Decree, which is issued for the application of Article L. 111-4 of the Consumer Code, establishes a list of categories (multifunction mobile phones and laptops) and spare parts to be made available on the market by producers (manufacturers and importers) for a minimum period of five years from the date of placing on the market of the last unit of the equipment model concerned.

9. Repair and maintenance of consumer goods most often require the replacement of original parts with replacement parts, called spare parts. Thus, the availability of spare parts is an important issue in order to allow consumers to repair or have products repaired and extend their lifespan.
In this context, the purpose of this Decree is to facilitate the repair of multifunctional mobile phones and laptops. This decree makes it possible, in particular, to encourage the extension of the life and use of these products.

It should be noted that the provisions concerning the period of availability of parts for certain household appliances, screens and monitors are also laid down by Implementing Regulations to Directive 2009/125/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products. These household appliances, screens and monitors are not affected by this decree.
