8. The Design Manual for Roads and Bridges is the basis of the requirements used by the Highways Agency for the design of new highway construction works and maintenance on the UK Strategic Trunk Road Network.
CD 534 sets out the needs of the Overseeing Organisation with respect to design and construction of the chamber and gully tops for road drainage.
9. The use of these documents is mandatory for all trunk roads, including motorways, in England. Other UK Overseeing Departments incorporate certain amendments to take account of local conditions.
This document will replace the existing requirements and ensure best practice in road and bridge construction while complying with all relevant EU Directives, as well as ensuring the appropriate levels of governance for the highway authority.
