5. Ordinance amending the ship safety regulations on the construction and equipping of traditional ships and other vessels not subject to international ship safety regulations

6. The ordinance concerns historic vessels that the general public enjoys seeing in operation (traditional ships).

8. The ordinance regulates the safety requirements for traditional vessels. Specifically it contains regulations on the following:
- Construction of ships, layout and stability, engines and electrical systems
- Fire protection
- Rescue equipment
- Radio equipment
- Navigational equipment
- Safe vessel operation
- Marine environment protection
- Medical care
- Registration of persons on board
- Requirements for sail training ships

9. This ordinance is intended to create permanent regulations for the preservation of traditional shipping. The provisions on safety requirements for traditional ships were drawn up in the year 2000 and need revision. The aim is to set out an up-to-date safety level that will simultaneously guarantee the preservation of historic shipping.
