8. The basis for assessment of enamels and ceramic materials in contact with drinking water
(Enamels/Ceramics Assessment Basis) lays down sanitary requirements for these materials with respect to their use in contact with drinking water.

9. Directive 98/83/EC requires Member States to take all measures necessary to comply with the requirements of Article 10 of this Directive. Article 10 was transposed into German law by §17 of the 2001 Drinking Water Regulation [Trinkwasserverordnung 2001 – TrinkwV 2001]. The proposed draft basis for assessment specifies these requirements for enamels and ceramic materials and is necessary to ensure the sanitary safety of drinking water supplies in Germany.
