The draft Instructions of Issue 1 ‘Instructions for Road Project Studies – Vehicle Guard-Rails [IRPS--RSR]’ and its accompanying instructions (2,3,4,5), as drafted in the framework of the Technical Advisor Service Contract of 6 February 2019 to assist the Directorate for Road Infrastructures of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in the revision of the existing since 2011 IRPS--RSR.
9. The development of studies and surveys on Vehicle Interception Systems (VIS) during the
ten years since 2011 with enrichment of data and
more accurate knowledge of the way they conduct – function from
fieldwork (physical tests), made it imperative to update and complement the current IRPS--RSR.
By enriching the text of the new IRPS--RSR and accompanying deliverables
an extensive case studies of issues is adequately addressed, at design level
(study), placement level (workshop – supervision) and quality assurance level (specifications – receipt of the project).
These Directives provide the basis for the country to obtain the necessary
technical tool for compiling reliable and complete insurance studies and correct placement of guard-rails under real conditions of configuration of
Greek roads.
The publication of the new IRPS--RSR 2021 is divided into 5 issues instead of one so far and
in particular:
• ISSUE 1: Updated and completed version of the current issue of instructions.
• ISSUE 2: Instructions for Installation-Maintenance-Repair of Guard-Rails (new
material).
• ISSUE 3: Instructions for the Recognition and Acceptance of Injected Guard-Rails from
Concrete (life assurance of at least 25 years).
• ISSUE 4: Instructions for the Study and Installation of Splices and Ends of Guard-Rails
(new material).
• ISSUE 5: Standard models for selection, application and placement of guard-rails
in special and exceptional circumstances or conditions.
