5. Draft Order amending Order No D1-236 of the Minister for Environment of the Republic of Lithuania of 17 May 2006 adopting the Wastewater Management Regulation

(Small wastewater treatment systems are considered to be construction products)

8. The draft adjusts/supplements Table 2 in the Regulation (the table defines pollution limits for wastewater discharged into the natural environment). Specifically, the draft sets maximum permissible levels for nitrogen and phosphorus, and for wastewater discharges of less than 5 m3/d.

These amendments have been introduced with a view to implementing the Action Plan for implementing the 2017-2023 Water Development Programme, which requires that a requirement be laid down for all wastewater treatment systems, including individual and communal systems, to eliminate nitrogen and phosphorus. The levels have been set in accordance with the provisions of Helsinki Commission Recommendation of 15 November 2007 on wastewater treatment of single family homes, small businesses and settlements up to 300 p.e.
Small wastewater management systems are considered to be construction products that must be tested by notified laboratories prior to their placement on the market.
