6. The farming of certain animals for fur
The slaughter of animals without stunning for any other reason than for the exclusive needs of members of legally recognised religious organisations operating in the territory of Poland

7. - an obligation to take a specific legal form - Article 1(6) - amending Article 11 of the Act of 1997 on the protection of animals

8. Amongst other aspects, the Act of 18 September 2020 amending the Act on the protection of animals and certain other acts provides for:
- a ban on the farming of fur animals (with the exception of rabbits) for their fur,
- a ban on the slaughter of animals without stunning, with the exception of slaughter carried out to meet the needs of the members of religious communities and organisations registered in Poland.

9. The need to introduce the proposed legislative solutions is related to the necessity to enhance animal welfare and ensure better treatment and well-being of animals, amongst other aspects.
The ban on the farming of animals for their fur stems from the fact that such farming causes unnecessary suffering to animals, and moreover, certain holdings have a negative impact on the environment.
The ban on the slaughter of animals without stunning aims to eliminate the commercial export of meat from animals slaughtered in this way. The slaughter of animals without stunning is only to be allowed to meet the needs of the members of religious communities and organisations registered in Poland.
