8. Currently, ‘cider’ is not defined in either Hungarian food legislation or EU regulations; therefore, various generally low-quality products with the invented name of ‘cider’ can be found on the market.
This is liable to confuse consumers, so a new regulation on cider has been introduced in the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus, in which quality parameters are also brought in line with the regulations on Hungarian fruit wines, among other things.
The regulation leads to a high-quality product and gives consumers correct information by laying down requirements for the name ‘cider’.

9. As consumer awareness is on the rise, society's demand for high quality food is increasing. Consumer demand for higher quality products and more in-depth information has grown. The draft adds a new regulation to the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus to ensure these products may be produced to a high quality and that consumers are given fair information as to quality via the description of a product.

The provisions of the Codex Alimentarius Hungaricus on cider products set the following requirements:
Cider is a sparkling alcoholic beverage made from fermented apple juice and not containing any added alcohol, colourings or flavourings.
